Our State-Approved Curriculum

Our school's general education curriculum is based on the district's Course of Study, K-12. In addition to meeting a legal requirement, the Course of Study provides information about the district's educational programs and approved instructional materials. It also outlines state and district requirements, district cross-curricular programs, special education programs, student assessment, and more.

Literacy

Over the past four years the teachers at Emerson have implemented the comprehensive curriculum called Benchmark Advance. One of the many reasons we find this program to be highly effective is how the topics and texts are vertically aligned across all grade levels. There are 10 units taught throughout the year and each student receives their own colored copy of texts to take home! Not only are the whole group texts engaging, but there are also small group texts that complement each unit.
